A huge thank you to the stalwart bluegrass fans who spent all or part of the weekend of September 22-24 with us at Frerich's Farm for the 2023 Ocean State Bluegrass Festival & Pick-nic. Everyone had a great time despite the dicey weather.
Also a heartfelt thank you to those who helped us set up, manage, and clean up the festival. Thank you to Frerich's Farm for their help and generosity and the generous support from The Carter Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation.
And finally, a warm thank you to the board members and volunteers who worked tirelessly this weekend to put on an awesome program to bring together the Southern New England bluegrass community.
Friday saw sunshine and our hard working volunteers setting up tents, food, and the stage, campers filing in, and a fun Open Mic featuring a variety of talented performers.
Saturday activities included dodging raindrops, workshops and a show featuring four great bands: Stoneface Mountain; Henry, Horton and McClanahan; Hope Valley Volunteers; and the Hosmer Mountain Boys. The show was moved into a greenhouse on the farm so everyone could be warm and dry while enjoying the music.
The highlight of Sunday was the Band Scramble. Participants put their name in a box for the instrument they wanted to play, then names were drawn to make up four impromptu bands. Each band quickly worked up three songs, then put on a show. It was a blast!
